紅外線 (IR) 直角稜鏡提供兩種基材選項。鍺是具備高指數的稠密物質 (n10.6μm = 4.0034), 適合需要最長光學路徑的 3 - 12μm 應用使用。硒化鋅 (n10.6μm = 2.4028) 普遍搭配使用 CO2 雷射應用,在 0.6 - 18μm 具備高穿透率。

直角稜鏡一般用於折彎影像路徑或將光線方向變更 90°。如此會產生左向旋轉的影像,視稜鏡的方向而定,影像可能會反轉或恢復。此外,還可以組合使用直角稜鏡以實現影像/光束位移。

注意: 搬動硒化鋅透鏡時應特別小心,因為硒化鋅是有毒材料。一定要戴橡膠或塑膠手套,以避免污染風險。
