Edmund Optics Acquires son-x to Expand Manufacturing Capabilities and Strengthen Global Leadership in Providing Innovative Customer Solutions

Edmund Optics^®, a global manufacturer and supplier of optical components and assemblies, is proud to announce the acquisition of son-x, a high-tech leader in ultrasonic assist systems and high precision optics manufacturing, founded in 2011 in Aachen, Germany as spin-off from Fraunhofer.

This strategic acquisition enhances Edmund Optics’ diamond turning capabilities and strengthens its position as a trusted partner in delivering innovative solutions to customers worldwide. By integrating son-x expertise and resources, who has developed a pioneering ultrasonic-assisted diamond turning technology and redefined precision optics production worldwide, Edmund Optics is poised to drive greater value, efficiency, and innovation by now being able to provide multi-axis machined (up to 5 axis) high complex surfaces from 1 mm up to 1 meter.

About son-x GmbH: son-x is an owner-managed company that emerged from the Fraunhofer Institute and is headquartered in Aachen, Germany. The focus of the company is ultra-precision manufacturing.
